About the role#
The Groton Facilities Capitol Projects team manages infrastructure, renovations, and new construction across the shipyard. This internship provides exposure to the engineering and project management work required to support a site with over 100 years of history. Interns work alongside engineers and designers to maintain shipyard systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, steam, and various fluid and gas systems.
What you'll do#
- Support project management and surveillance tasks.
- Perform calculations for fluid systems, structures, and components.
- Review and update engineering drawings and procedures.
- Research relevant codes to support construction and inspection activities.
- Assist with preliminary project development.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Structural, Electrical, Ocean, or Chemical Engineering.
- Completion of your Freshman year before the start of the internship.
- US citizenship.
- Ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to solve problems independently or within a team.
- You must be 18 years of age or older.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site role in Groton, Connecticut.
- The internship requires a 40-hour work week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May 2027 and September 2027.
- You are responsible for arranging your own housing and reliable transportation.
