About the role#
General Dynamics NASSCO is hiring a Firefighter Intern for a part-time position in San Diego. This role provides supervised hands-on experience in emergency medical care and fire response within a shipyard environment. The internship lasts up to six months and requires a commitment of 24 hours per week, typically three days of eight hours each.
What you'll do#
- Assist with fire and emergency calls, including laying hoses and setting up ladders.
- Administer first aid when necessary.
- Observe and support fire prevention and pre-fire inspections.
- Take part in drills and various training activities.
- Work in both office and outdoor shipyard settings, including aboard vessels under construction or repair.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Fire Science classes or recent completion of a fire academy.
- Valid EMT and CPR certificates.
- Basic knowledge of firefighting theories and concepts.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
- Capability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and while wearing full personal protective equipment.
