    About the role#

    This is a part-time, paid internship for the Fall 2026 term. As part of the Aspire Works Internship program, you will work with the GBH Archives team to manage media and metadata for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting. You will receive mentorship from staff while gaining hands-on experience in archival practices and data analysis.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform item-level cataloging of videos for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting.
    • Become familiar with the PBCore metadata schema.
    • Test and evaluate new versions of cataloging software and internal workflows.
    • Develop and improve Python tools used to view and analyze catalog data.
    • Research new methods for large-scale authority control regarding radio and television contributors.

    What you'll need#

    • Experience with cataloging, database systems, or asset management.
    • A working knowledge of basic archival principles for description, arrangement, and access.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • An interest in software development or data processing.
    • Proficiency in Python and the Bash shell is a plus.
    • Enrollment in majors such as Computer Science, Data Science, History, or Media Studies.
    • Active status in the Aspire Program.

    Location & details#

    • This role is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
    • The position follows a hybrid schedule, requiring onsite work at least two days per week, specifically Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
    • You must provide your own computer and internet access.
