    About the role#

    This Cybersecurity Intern role supports IT infrastructure and compliance initiatives within federal contracting environments. You will work on enterprise-level security systems and gain practical experience with industry compliance frameworks. This is a part-time, remote position with a maximum of 125 hours. The program is funded through the Virginia Experiential Learning Grant from the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with IT automation processes and document security practices.
    • Help design, test, and roll out a virtual desktop environment to support secure remote access.
    • Audit tenant security configurations to identify gaps.
    • Write remediation recommendations, including system hardening and patching strategies.
    • Support daily monitoring, risk management, and compliance reporting tasks.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an upperclassman at a Virginia state college or university.
    • A major in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • Familiarity with Azure, Microsoft 365, or similar enterprise platforms.
    • A working knowledge of basic cybersecurity principles and frameworks.
    • Strong research, documentation, and technical writing skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • U.S. citizenship may be required for access to certain systems.

    • Remote work.
    • Part-time schedule agreed upon with your manager.
    • Paid internship through the Virginia Experiential Learning Grant.
