About the role#
As a member of the protein engineering team at Serif Biomedicines, you will work at the intersection of computational protein design and wet-lab experimental validation. This position is open exclusively to current Northeastern University students. You will participate in the Flagship Pioneering Co-Op Program, which includes access to enrichment sessions and a dedicated professional development track.
What you'll do#
- Apply ML models of protein sequence and structure to engineer novel proteins with desired functions.
- Construct DNA libraries and transform them into yeast for functional analysis using FACS and flow cytometry.
- Coordinate the biophysical characterization of protein binders with third-party vendors.
- Analyze experimental results and communicate findings to the team.
- Collaborate with experienced scientists to iterate on laboratory protocols.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a MS in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with core wet-lab techniques, including PCR, molecular cloning, and flow cytometry.
- Basic proficiency in a programming language used for data analysis, such as Python or R.
- Comfort working in command-line environments and experience with DNA sequence analysis.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with ML architectures for protein engineering, such as AlphaFold or RFDiffusion, is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- Term: January 2027 to June 2027.
- Modality: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week on-site.
- Compensation: $25 to $35 per hour.
- Note: This is a paid, short-term engagement and is not eligible for health and welfare benefits.
