About the role#
We are looking for a Co-op student to join our Protein Science team. This role focuses on recombinant enzyme expression, purification, and characterization. You will contribute to routine protein production workflows and gain experience in enzyme quality assessment. This position supports our discovery and development efforts by enabling the reliable production of high-quality protein reagents for our programs.
What you'll do#
- Support recombinant protein expression in microbial and mammalian systems.
- Perform protein purification using affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography.
- Operate and maintain chromatography systems like the ÄKTA.
- Assess protein purity and integrity using SDS-PAGE and other analytical methods.
- Prepare necessary buffers, reagents, and samples for production workflows.
- Document all experimental procedures and protocols using electronic lab notebooks.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, or a related field.
- Independent experience running protein purification workflows outside of a classroom setting.
- Familiarity with basic wet-lab techniques such as pipetting and solution preparation.
- Strong interest in synthetic biology.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
