About the role#
This Summer 2027 internship provides hands-on experience with the Construction Management Group in Colorado Springs. You will work on active transportation projects, including roadways and bridges. This position is field-based and focuses on the intersection of engineering design and construction oversight.
What you'll do#
- Work on transportation construction projects under the supervision of licensed engineers.
- Observe and document construction activities to ensure they meet project plans and specifications.
- Prepare daily inspection reports, record work quantities, and track project progress.
- Support project engineers with design interpretation, technical problem-solving, and contractor coordination.
- Review and track project documentation such as submittals, shop drawings, and change orders.
- Use AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office to support design and documentation tasks.
- Engage with contractors and project teams to resolve field discrepancies.
- Perform field work that may involve climbing ladders, walking rebar mats, and working in varying site conditions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree program.
- A strong interest in both engineering design and construction inspection.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans and specifications with guidance.
- A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions, including occasional nights or weekends.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
