About the role#
This internship offers students a chance to gain hands-on experience by working with the Water Resources, Civil Design, and Bridge Engineering teams at Felsburg Holt & Ullevig. You will rotate between these groups during the summer, contributing to active projects under the guidance of experienced professionals. You will gain exposure to hydrologic analysis, multimodal transportation design, and structural engineering.
What you'll do#
- Assist in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for transportation projects, including basin studies.
- Support stormwater quality analysis and determine best management practices.
- Participate in design work for highway, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit infrastructure.
- Conduct fieldwork, data collection, and analysis.
- Assist in the design of bridges, retaining walls, and box culverts.
- Prepare reports, specifications, construction documents, and presentations.
- Use industry software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation OpenRoads Designer.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
What you'll need#
- Current Junior, Senior, or Graduate student in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Availability for a 3-month commitment during the summer.
- Experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation is preferred.
- Coursework or project experience in transportation, structural, or water resources engineering.
- Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and CDOT Bridge Design Policies is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of structural analysis techniques and engineering principles.

- This role is based on-site in Denver, Colorado.
- The internship is a full-time, paid position.
- The term runs for 3 months during Summer 2027.
