    About the role#

    This is a 6-month co-op position based in Billerica, Massachusetts, starting in January 2027. You will work under the guidance of a Lead Automation & Controls Engineer in a high-tech manufacturing environment. This role focuses on industrial control systems, offering exposure to PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, and equipment commissioning. You will contribute to projects that support safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with the design, integration, and documentation of automation systems and controls.
    • Support PLC logic development, debugging, and optimization, primarily using Allen-Bradley or Rockwell systems.
    • Perform HMI interface updates to improve cycle time and equipment effectiveness.
    • Help conduct root cause analysis for downtime, quality issues, and system failures.
    • Participate in the development and testing of automated inspection systems involving vision, sensors, and gauging.
    • Support system commissioning, validation, and acceptance testing.
    • Assist with risk assessments, safety validations, and compliance checks.
    • Maintain accurate project documentation, electrical schematics, and software version control.
    • Collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality teams to learn automation standardization practices.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls/Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
    • A strong interest in industrial automation and manufacturing systems.
    • Basic familiarity with PLC programming concepts and HMI/SCADA systems gained through coursework or prior experience.
    • A fundamental understanding of industrial networks, electrical systems, and safety practices.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) on-site.
    • Familiarity with your university’s requirements for co-op participation.

    • Location: Billerica, Massachusetts.
    • Term: Winter 2027 (January through June).
    • Modality: On-site, full-time.
    • Compensation: $20-$30 per hour.
    • Note: This position does not provide immigration sponsorship.
