About the role#
Energy Toolbase is hiring interns for the Data Science and Optimization team. This is a 16-month internship running from May 2027 through August 2028. You will work on software for modeling, controlling, and monitoring distributed energy storage and photovoltaic systems. Your work will involve financial optimization for energy storage and forecasting data for building loads and solar generation.
What you'll do#
- Write software for data science and optimization tasks using suitable development methodologies.
- Design, build, and test software features using Python and Typescript.
- Create unit and integration tests for your code.
- Research, analyze, and prototype new product features.
- Collaborate with Product Management to deliver features that improve the user experience.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements definition, high-level design, sizing, code reviews, and documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the 3rd year of a Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree program.
- Proficiency in Python and Typescript or JavaScript.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with Linux systems and Docker.
- Clear communication skills and a commitment to code quality.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

- Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
- Modality: On-site.
- Duration: 16 months (Summer 2027 through Summer 2028).
- This is a paid, full-time position.
