Elk Valley Resources is seeking a Mining Engineering Co-op student to join our Coal Division in Sparwood, British Columbia. This full-time, paid position begins in January 2027 for a duration of 8 or 12 months. You will work on-site, gaining hands-on experience in steelmaking coal operations while applying academic knowledge to real-world mining challenges.
What you'll do#
- Adhere to all health and safety programs and policies.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to develop mine operations plans.
- Assist in the development, tracking, and reporting of mine permit compliance.
- Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and prepare capital expenditure documentation.
- Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to improve business processes.
- Contribute to drilling, blasting, and surveying activities while providing technical support to production departments.
- Monitor operating areas and assist with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans.
What you'll need#
- Currently working towards an undergraduate degree in Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent, without learner's restrictions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously as a self-starter.
- Comfort working in an industrial environment with diverse technical and operational personnel.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
