About the role#
Elk Valley Resources is seeking a Mining Engineering Co-op student for the Winter 2027 term. This full-time, on-site position is based in Sparwood, British Columbia. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in steelmaking coal operations while working alongside engineering and operations teams.
What you'll do#
- Participate in and adhere to all health and safety programs and policies.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to develop mine operations plans.
- Assist with the development, tracking, and reporting of compliance for mine permits.
- Perform economic evaluations and productivity analyses.
- Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to improve business processes.
- Contribute to mine planning, pit and dump design, production scheduling, and optimization.
- Support drilling, blasting, and surveying activities while providing technical services to mine production departments.
- Monitor operating areas and assist with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering. Students in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering, as well as Business Administration, are also eligible.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License or an extra-provincial equivalent without learner restrictions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously as a motivated self-starter.
- Comfort working in an industrial environment with a range of technical and operational personnel.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
