About the role#
Elk Valley Resources is hiring a Coal and Coke Quality Co-op for the Winter 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Sparwood, British Columbia. You will work with the Technical Marketing team to ensure coal and coke quality meets specifications for customers. This role involves collaborating with mine planning, operations, and logistics teams.
What you'll do#
- Follow all health and safety programs and policies.
- Analyze weekly quality performance data using tools like Power BI.
- Conduct a coal aging study.
- Plan and execute large diameter bulk sampling drilling.
- Present quality performance updates at weekly meetings with mine site teams.
- Compile and deliver monthly quality performance reports to the technical marketing team.
- Participate in lab audits.
- Propose and evaluate new technologies to improve business processes.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an Undergraduate degree in Geology, Chemical Engineering, or Process Engineering.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent without learner's restrictions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to various audiences.
- Capability to work effectively in a team and build relationships across different technical disciplines.
- Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.

- Location: Sparwood, British Columbia, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027 (8 to 12 months).
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $4,867 to $6,167 CAD per month, depending on completed academic semesters and prior experience.
