About the role#
The Elk Grove Park District offers a seasonal internship for students interested in public history. Based at the Elk Grove Historical Museum, this position provides hands-on experience across multiple aspects of museum operations. You will work within a campus that includes a furnished farmhouse, barn, and exhibition building. This is a paid, on-site position for Summer 2026.
What you'll do#
- Process items in the collection and catalog information using CatalogIt software.
- Photograph artifacts and assist with inventory and organization.
- Assist with exhibit planning and design.
- Conduct tours of the museum site.
- Help plan and facilitate events and programs.
- Complete a specific project approved by the museum curator and your academic advisor.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree or certificate program in History, Public Health, Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, or a related field.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Google Docs and Google Sheets.
- Knowledge of history, research, and writing processes.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
- Experience with CatalogIt is preferred but not required.
- A responsible, conscientious, and self-motivated approach to work.
