About the role#
This internship offers an opportunity to apply public history practices within the Elk Grove Historical Museum campus, which includes an exhibition building, a furnished farmhouse, a barn, and a chicken coop. Interns will gain experience in museum operations while working under the guidance of the museum curator. This is a paid, seasonal position for Summer 2026.
What you'll do#
- Process items in the collection and catalog information using CatalogIt software.
- Photograph artifacts and assist with inventory management.
- Conduct tours of the museum site.
- Assist with exhibit planning and design.
- Help plan and facilitate museum events and programs.
- Perform research and create finding aids.
- Complete a specific project approved by the curator and your academic advisor.
- Lift up to 30 pounds as required by site duties.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree or certificate program in History, Public Health, Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, or a related field.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Google Docs and Sheets.
- Knowledge of history, research, and writing processes.
- Experience with CatalogIt software is preferred.
- A responsible, conscientious, and self-motivated approach to tasks.

- Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
