About the role#
This summer internship provides hands-on experience in system and network administration within an environment supporting approximately 50 users. You will work closely with the IT Manager to maintain infrastructure and complete projects tailored to your interests and organizational needs. This is a paid, 13-week position running from May through August.
What you'll do#
- Provide IT support for trouble tickets, calls, and walk-in requests.
- Image and set up new computers.
- Deploy software and system updates on servers and shared user systems.
- Audit and update technical documentation, including equipment inventory and asset tracking.
- Test and audit system backups.
- Complete projects involving Windows 11 deployment, Synology NAS products, Proxmox virtualization, and information security tasks like firmware audits and VPN hardening.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Networking or Computer Science degree program.
- Experience with Windows Server environments, including Group Policy, domain user management, and basic PowerShell.
- Comfort working in Linux CLI environments, including directory structures, common commands, and basic bash scripting.
- Understanding of network design, the OSI model, and typical networking hardware and protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, specifically the ability to explain technology to non-technical staff.
- Experience with Proxmox, Cisco enterprise routers, and computer hardware is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is located on-site in Burlington, Vermont.
- The schedule is 32 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday.
- Start and end dates offer flexibility for mid-summer time off.
