About the role#
Durabuilt Windows & Doors is hiring an Engineering Co-Op student to join our R&D and Testing & Development teams. This is a 4-month, full-time position starting in January 2027. You will translate CAD models and engineering drawings into clear installation manuals and assembly guides. This role involves working directly with our drafting team and seeing your work put into practice on active job sites.
What you'll do#
- Develop installation manuals, assembly instructions, and installation guidelines under the guidance of our Senior R&D and Testing & Development Engineers.
- Create technical illustrations, exploded views, and step-by-step sequences using SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS Composer.
- Collaborate with the drafting team to source models and drawings, ensuring documentation reflects the latest designs.
- Interpret CAD models, cross-sections, and assembly drawings to confirm installation sequences.
- Maintain and update existing manuals as products and standards change.
- Review relevant product standards, specifications, and building codes for your documentation.
- Visit active job sites to observe the installation process firsthand.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Civil Engineering program.
- Availability for a full-time, 4-month co-op term starting January 2027.
- Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, specifically with part modelling, assemblies, and drawings.
- Experience with SOLIDWORKS Composer is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault is a plus.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of the Alberta Building Code is helpful.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain technical steps clearly.
- Ability to manage tight deadlines and perform well under pressure.
- Sharp attention to detail.
