About the role#
As the Director for the Office of Student Veterans, you will serve as the primary advocate for military-connected students at Duke University. This leadership role focuses on building programs and support systems that foster belonging, academic achievement, and personal growth for veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, and their families. You will work across the university to coordinate services and develop policies that support students from admission through graduation.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and assess programs that support the recruitment, transition, and retention of military-connected students.
- Provide consultation and case management coordination to support student wellbeing and academic success.
- Collaborate with various departments, including academic and student support offices, to coordinate holistic services.
- Establish strong working relationships with the Department of Veterans Affairs, military organizations, and community partners.
- Develop policies, procedures, and sustainable operational practices for the Office of Student Veterans.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on veteran student success and advise university leadership on emerging trends.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Six years of experience in student affairs, student services, higher education administration, or a related field.
- Experience working directly with military-connected students and their families.
- Knowledge of VA educational benefits and compliance requirements.
- Outstanding communication and organizational skills.
- Academic background in Psychology, Political Science, Human Resources, Public Health, or Sociology is preferred.
