    About the role#

    The Public Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (PACH) Lab in the Department of Anthropology is looking for a research assistant. This role supports the launch and daily operations of the lab as a new research hub on campus. You will report to the PACH Director and work 8 to 10 hours per week.

    What you'll do#

    • Help define the strategic vision and core functions of the lab.
    • Manage communication tasks including email, social media, and website updates.
    • Assist with research efforts such as archaeological artifact processing and cultural heritage interpretation.
    • Plan, execute, and attend in-person lab events.
    • Track student participation metrics for the lab.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at American University.
    • Ability to work with or without a Federal Work Study award.
    • A degree, minor, or certificate in Anthropology is preferred, though students in Communications, Journalism, Sociology, and History are encouraged to apply.
    • Strong writing and communication skills.
    • High attention to detail.
    • Experience or a natural sensibility for customer service.
    • Comfort speaking with people from diverse backgrounds.

    • This position is located at the Hamilton Building, Room 208, on the main campus in Washington, DC.
    • The role is part-time and on-site.
