About the role#
The Middle School Dean of Student Supports serves as a leader for staff and families regarding special education services and regulations. Reporting to the Principal, you will work with the school-based leadership team and the Network Director of Special Education to ensure the integration of student support services and the implementation of special education policies. This role requires a deep understanding of state and federal regulations and a solution-oriented mindset when managing challenging situations.
What you'll do#
- Serve as a member of the School Leadership Team and advocate for special education.
- Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment.
- Oversee and manage a caseload of special education students, including the implementation of IEP and 504 plans.
- Facilitate IEP meetings using a strengths-based and family-centered approach.
- Engage parents and families in their children’s academic success through regular communication regarding progress and IEPs.
- Provide coaching and professional development to teachers on student support best practices and IEP management.
- Participate in the Response to Intervention process to develop strategies for students in need.
- Coordinate with the DOE to schedule and manage IEP meetings and compliance deadlines.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree in Special Education preferred.
- Three years of teaching experience in an Integrated Co-Teaching or special education setting.
- Demonstrated ability to create inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Appropriate New York State certification in Special Education is preferred.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred.
- Experience in coaching, people leadership, and leading professional development is strongly preferred.
