Middle School Dean of Student Supports

About the role#

The Middle School Dean of Student Supports serves as a key member of the School Leadership Team, acting as an advocate for special education services and regulations. This position collaborates with the Network Director of Special Education and school-based leadership to ensure the implementation of special education policies and the integration of student support services. The role requires a leader who can manage caseloads, provide teacher coaching, and maintain compliance with local and federal regulations.

What you'll do#

• Serve as a member of the School Leadership Team to advocate for special education needs.
• Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment.
• Manage a caseload of special education students, including the implementation of IEP and 504 plans and progress monitoring.
• Facilitate IEP meetings using a strengths-based and family-centered approach.
• Engage parents and families in their children’s academic success through regular communication regarding student progress and IEPs.
• Provide coaching and professional development to teachers and interventionists on student support best practices and IEP management.
• Participate in the Response-to-Intervention (RTI) process to develop and monitor academic and social-emotional support strategies.
• Oversee ELL compliance and coordination.

What you'll need#

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's Degree in Special Education preferred.
• Three years of teaching experience in an Integrated Co-Teaching or special education setting.
• Demonstrated ability to create inclusive environments that support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
• Appropriate New York State certification in Special Education is preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred.
• Experience in coaching, leadership, and professional development is strongly preferred.
