About the role#
DOWL is seeking an intern for the Summer 2027 term to assist with water resources engineering projects. This role provides one-on-one mentorship for students interested in hydrology, hydraulics, and hydraulic structures. You will work on a variety of tasks that support our engineering teams and gain exposure to field work and construction administration.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field investigations, technical report writing, and project design.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design projects.
- Tabulate bid items and calculate construction quantities from plans and specifications to estimate costs.
- Run hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and HY-8.
- Analyze alternative solutions and conduct construction inspections.
- Complete other engineering-related tasks as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Completion of one to two years of college-level course work toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, with a focus on water preferred.
- A valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions, analyze journals, and define problems to draw valid conclusions.
- Strong grasp of geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of ARC GIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering is a plus.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
