About the role#
This internship with the Solar Project Construction group focuses on the large-scale buildout of solar renewable infrastructure in Virginia. You will apply technical and project management skills to support solar projects from initial design and permitting through construction and final closeout. The role is based in Richmond, with opportunities to visit local construction sites.
What you'll do#
- Manage project scope and schedules while coordinating with internal teams like Real Estate, Safety, and Operations.
- Review technical site documentation, including environmental and cultural studies, civil site plans, and stormwater designs.
- Evaluate electrical distribution, equipment selection, and solar array layouts.
- Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Assist with obtaining necessary zoning and land disturbance permits.
- Oversee contracted engineering products and verify that construction work follows the approved site design.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ABET accredited Engineering program, specifically in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Understanding of project tracking tools and basic engineering theory.
- Experience in interpreting technical drawings.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to research problems to provide well-reasoned recommendations.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- A valid driver's license.

- Location: Richmond, Virginia.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days teleworking).
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: Paid position ($29.00 - $37.00 per hour).
