About the role#
David Mason + Associates (DMA) offers an internship program designed to expose students to the full life cycle of engineering projects. You will work under the supervision of licensed engineers and land surveyors to support design tasks and project operations. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position based in Chicago.
What you'll do#
- Support entry-level detailed design tasks.
- Prepare plans, specifications, reports, and other project documents.
- Use AutoCAD or Revit to assist with engineering plans and construction drawings.
- Perform calculations for assessments, analysis, and cost opinions.
- Assist project managers and participate in client meetings.
- Conduct field site investigations and inspections during or after construction.
- Research local regulations for project sites.
- Maintain time sheets and track reimbursement documents.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 2 or 4-year degree program in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Ability to take direction and work independently.
- Strong active listening and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, versatile, and enthusiastic approach to work.
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools.
- Previous exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, or Bluebeam is helpful.
- Experience reading plans, sketches, and specifications.
- Background in land surveying or construction site work is a plus.
