About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will bridge the gap between your pharmacy school education and real-world clinical practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining exposure to pharmacy operations at the store, district, and regional levels. This role focuses on developing your professional skills while supporting the pharmacy team in delivering safe and efficient patient care.
What you'll do#
- Apply your pharmacy school learning to daily operations and patient interactions.
- Ensure prescriptions are filled accurately, safely, and in a timely manner.
- Follow company standard operating procedures and pharmacy workflow protocols at all workstations, including drop-off, production, and pick-up.
- Provide empathetic care to patients, including fielding medical questions and offering counseling under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication orders when necessary.
- Perform basic inventory tasks, such as managing medication deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Deliver patient health services, including point-of-care testing and immunizations, upon obtaining the required Technician Immunizer status and training.
- Maintain self-awareness and provide coaching to other pharmacy team members.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as required.
- Strong attention to detail, mathematical reasoning, and the ability to pivot between tasks quickly.
- Physical ability to remain mobile for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks like typing and reaching.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified and work across multiple locations within the market.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
