About the role#
The Student Financial Services Counselor provides support to students and families regarding financial aid, billing, and tuition. You will act as a primary resource for prospective and continuing students, helping them navigate aid eligibility, loan management, and payment processes. This role requires a commitment to student success and clear communication across the university community.
What you'll do#
- Advise students and families on financial aid options, including federal programs, state aid, and institutional scholarships.
- Provide individualized counseling on application procedures, award packaging, and loan repayment plans.
- Assist students with billing questions, payment plans, and account adjustments.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding aid eligibility, billing statements, and deadlines.
- Manage the collection of student tuition and work with students to resolve delinquent account balances.
- Collaborate with internal departments to support enrollment and retention efforts.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree (a Master's degree is preferred).
- At least two years of direct experience in student financial services at a college or university.
- Knowledge of financial aid eligibility requirements, student account processes, and delinquent account management.
- Proficiency in computer operating systems and software, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive data with discretion.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under deadlines.
