Intern - Generative AI Research Engineer

About the role#

The Generative AI Research Engineer Intern will conduct primary and secondary research on healthcare informatics, focusing on Generative AI and emerging Artificial General Intelligence for treatment, payment, and operational use cases. This role involves developing and improving LLMs and ML tools, supporting the Artificial Intelligence Governance Program, and providing intelligence to Business Units. You will work closely with research and development teams, product management, and strategic analysts to deliver healthcare solutions.

What you'll do#

• Conduct research on advanced healthcare informatics technology and create analytical reports, research papers, and educational materials.
• Assist in the development and improvement of LLMs and ML tools used across the organization.
• Partner with Business Units to provide reliable intelligence and validated technology options.
• Support vendor evaluations and contribute to collaborations with vendors and academic institutions.
• Coordinate tasks for technology project teams and assist in day-to-day operations.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing or recently completed an advanced degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Health Administration, Biomedical Sciences, Data Science, or a related field.
• Strong foundational knowledge in generative AI model development, architectures, and vector databases.
• Hands-on experience with Machine Learning and Deep Learning models, including LLM/RAG models and fine-tuning.
• Experience with cloud services, large data sets, and building data pipelines.
• Demonstrated interest or experience in AI, healthcare technology, or informatics research.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Location & details#

• Location: Remote (United States).
• Terms: Summer 2026 or Fall 2026 start dates available.
• Commitment: 20 to 40 hours per week, with a duration ranging from one semester up to one year.
• Compensation: $32.00 to $40.00 per hour.
