About the role#
This is a 12-week internship within the Visa Research organization. You will join the Quantum Computing and Information team to conduct applied and fundamental research. The role involves exploring technologies critical to the future of the payments industry. You will engage with product teams, business partners, academics, and government entities to develop solutions for complex financial challenges.
What you'll do#
- Develop quantum algorithms and applications, including work in quantum machine learning, optimization, and cryptography.
- Apply research to tackle challenges in fraud detection, risk modeling, secure transactions, and large-scale financial data analysis.
- Participate in interactive workshops, learning sessions, and social events.
- Collaborate with team members to contribute and innovate on projects that advance the mission of the company.
- Deliver a final presentation sharing your project achievements and recommendations with leadership.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Ph.D. with an expected graduation date in December 2027 or later.
- Majors in Physics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.
- Proven research experience evidenced by publications, patents, or conference presentations.
- Knowledge of quantum algorithms, applied quantum physics, quantum machine learning, or simulations.
- Experience with Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Generative AI, or Large Language Models.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming such as Python, C++, or Java.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to solve complex problems.
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and adapt to change.

- Location: Foster City, California.
- Modality: Hybrid (at least 3 days in office).
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $66.00 to $73.00 per hour.
- Travel: 5-10% of the time.
