About the role#
The Student Engagement Coordinator oversees the student engagement program at Cornell College, including student organizations and New Student Orientation. This role influences student leadership development through formal and informal methods, assists with retention initiatives, and coordinates special events. The coordinator reports to the Dean of Students and works closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders.
What you'll do#
- Serve as the central coordinator for student activities, including events such as the Big Event and Homecoming.
- Act as advisor to PAAC, meeting regularly with the executive committee to ensure policy compliance and leadership development.
- Design, implement, and lead New Student Orientation twice annually, including the hiring and training of orientation staff.
- Provide support to student clubs and organizations regarding contract negotiations, risk management, and equipment storage.
- Serve as a resource for civic engagement programming, such as Lunch Buddies and Angel Tree.
- Manage administrative tasks including routine billings, travel requests, and budget oversight.
- Participate in the Leadership-on-Call rotation, with the potential to live on-campus as a primary on-call member.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree.
- At least three years of professional experience in higher education, preferably in student development, counseling, or education.
- Effective communication and program marketing skills.
- Knowledge of student life at a small, residential liberal arts college.
- Ability to motivate and work successfully with others.
- Ability to perform light physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
