About the role#
This Community Assistance Fellow position is an AmeriCorps service opportunity with Conservation Legacy, hosted in partnership with the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program. You will support conservation and outdoor recreation projects, specifically focusing on schoolyard greening efforts in the Los Angeles area. This is a full-time, paid service term running from November 2026 through October 2027.
What you'll do#
- Support staff with outreach, site analysis, and meeting facilitation.
- Communicate with project partners regarding schoolyard greening and outdoor recreation initiatives.
- Complete a comprehensive schoolyard greening concept plan.
- Develop an outreach strategy for the Los Angeles region.
- Provide direct support to ongoing schoolyard greening projects.
- Assist with schematic design, graphic communication, and project presentations.
What you'll need#
- Experience in landscape architecture, urban planning, or a closely related field.
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Must hold a high school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Status as a United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien.
- Ability to provide your own transportation to work locations or use public transit.

- Location: Thousand Oaks, California.
- Modality: This is a hybrid position that combines local teleservice with occasional in-person meetings at National Park Service offices or project sites.
- Physical requirements: You may need to move across varied terrain and occasionally lift or carry up to 25 pounds.
