About the role#
The Graduate Resident Director serves as a Graduate Assistant reporting to the Director of Residence Life. This role provides holistic, educational leadership for a residence hall housing 150-200 students. You will live on campus and work an average of 20 hours per week, with intensive training required in August and intermittent workload increases throughout the semester. This position supports the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct supervision, training, and evaluation for a staff of 6-8 Resident Assistants.
- Administer a comprehensive living-learning environment and execute a community development plan.
- Coordinate day-to-day operations, including occupancy, facilities management, hall opening and closing, and room selection.
- Establish mentoring relationships with students, mediate conflicts, and provide crisis intervention and response.
- Participate in an on-call emergency duty rotation during evenings and weekends.
- Manage operational reports, facility issues, and the programming budget with fiscal responsibility.
- Co-advise residence hall government and collaborate with university offices on educational initiatives.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor's degree and active enrollment in a Concordia University Chicago graduate program.
- Concurrent enrollment in at least 6 credit hours per term and maintenance of a 3.0 GPA.
- 1-2 years of undergraduate Residence Life experience or multiple years of strong leadership in student affairs or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations.
- Commitment to personal growth, Christian values, and the mission of Concordia University Chicago.
- Mature judgment and a willingness to be a reflective learner.
