About the role#
The Fabrication Technician Intern will support the hands-on fabrication, modification, and repair of custom prosthetic and orthotic devices in a clinical manufacturing environment. Working alongside experienced technicians and clinicians, this role provides practical exposure to the tools, materials, and quality standards necessary to support patient mobility and independence. This is a paid, full-time position offering hands-on training in a specialized healthcare setting.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the fabrication, modification, and repair of prosthetic and orthotic devices under supervision.
- Support the preparation, modification, and shaping of plaster molds and positive models.
- Learn to work with thermoplastics, laminations, foam, composites, and metals.
- Operate fabrication machinery, hand tools, and specialized lab equipment safely and effectively.
- Read and follow work orders, measurements, and technical documentation.
- Inspect completed devices to ensure they meet quality, durability, finish, and functional standards.
- Perform device adjustments and finishing work as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment.
- Collaborate with the team to support production timelines and follow safety and infection control standards.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
- Good attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow directions, ask questions, and work safely in a lab environment.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Preference is given to those currently enrolled in or recently completed programs in engineering (Biomedical, Mechanical, Industrial), Health Administration, Nursing, or related technical and trade fields.
Location & details#
- Location: Willowbrook, Illinois.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
- Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
- This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
