About the role#
Coeur Mining is seeking a Mining Engineering student for a paid Co-Op position at the Kensington gold mine near Juneau, Alaska. This role spans 6 to 8 months, beginning in Winter or Summer 2027. You will work on-site at a remote camp, typically following a rotation of 3 weeks on and 1 week off. This position is full-time and requires legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
What you'll do#
- Complete projects in the office and underground, focusing on drilling and blasting efficiencies.
- Work to improve operational safety and environmental performance to increase mining productivity.
- Report directly to the mine operations and engineering team.
- Collaborate with other interns to create a group presentation on potential company improvements.
- Participate in emergency response and evacuation procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment and work in varying environmental conditions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering degree program.
- Standing as a junior or senior at an accredited university.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5, though a 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to work safely and promote a safety-first mindset.
- Capability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Comfort working underground for long periods.
- Physical ability to stand and walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Location & details#
- The role is based at the Kensington mine, 45 miles north of Juneau, Alaska.
- Transportation to the site involves a combination of bus and boat travel.
- Housing and meals are provided on-site in dormitory-style rooms.
- This is a paid position.
