About the role#
As a Desk Assistant, you will serve as the first point of contact for residents and visitors at Brottier, St. Martin, and McGinley Halls on the Duquesne University campus. This is a part-time student position that involves managing front desk operations, supporting residents with daily needs, and ensuring building security. You will report to the Operations Coordinator.
What you'll do#
- Monitor the building entryway and greet everyone who enters.
- Manage sign-in and sign-out procedures for guests and equipment.
- Report safety or security concerns to the proper authorities.
- Assist residents with lockouts and guide them through the work order system.
- Handle mail and package processing, including sorting, recording, and auditing mail keys.
- Provide customer service via phone, email, and in-person interactions.
- Create content for social media, fliers, and various administrative documents.
- Help maintain the organization of the desk area, study lounge, kitchenette, and patios.
- Review emergency protocols and attend all required training sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at a post-secondary institution.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment like copiers and phones.
- Strong communication skills to interact with individuals and small groups.
- Basic typing and filing abilities.
- Preference is given to current Duquesne University students and residents of Brottier, St. Martin, and McGinley Halls.
Location & details#
- Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week. Shifts include evenings and weekends between 8:00 am and 12:00 am. Work is available during academic breaks.
- Compensation: $10.50 per hour.
- Status: This is a paid, non-exempt student position. It is not eligible for benefits.
