About the role#
CMC is hiring a Quality Assurance Intern to join our team in Cayce, South Carolina. This is a full-time, paid internship that provides hands-on experience in the steel and construction industry. You will work on-site, gaining exposure to industrial technologies and manufacturing processes while contributing to real-world projects.
What you'll do#
- Cross-train across the department to build skills in industrial and engineering technologies.
- Identify and evaluate cost-saving opportunities related to process, quality, and safety.
- Manage process improvement initiatives and complete special projects assigned by your manager.
- Troubleshoot technical problems using your job knowledge and communication with the team.
- Support lab standardization and document control activities.
- Perform chemical analysis of steel samples and physical product testing.
- Conduct visual, cutting, grinding, or non-destructive inspections to evaluate products.
- Prepare and test samples from heat samples, billets, and test bars.
- Verify test results against product specifications and support billet heat traceability.
- Inspect samples from rolled products for dimension, weight, and workmanship.
- Communicate inspection results to supervisors in real time.
- Actively participate in CMC safety programs and uphold our safety culture.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Industrial Engineering or Operations Management program, with Junior or Senior level preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong interest in industrial engineering technologies.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft applications like Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including pushing or pulling up to 90 lbs and carrying 50 lbs.
- Comfort working in environments with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, loud noise, and confined spaces.
- Previous internship experience is preferred.
