About the role#
This is an unpaid practicum or volunteer position for students and individuals pursuing a career in Health and Safety. You will report to the Compliance Officer, working from our office and occasionally traveling to local program sites. The schedule is flexible to accommodate your school or work commitments, typically during daytime hours.
What you'll do#
- Support workplace inspections by preparing checklists, recording findings, and tracking corrective actions.
- Assist with hazard assessments and hazard identification activities.
- Help investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries by gathering information and maintaining records.
- Maintain OHS records, databases, and electronic filing systems.
- Monitor inspection schedules for fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, emergency equipment, and other safety-related items.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a career or experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Management, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Google tools like Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail.
- Ability to learn new computer tracking systems.
- Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information.
- Completion of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check prior to starting.
