About the role#
This is an unpaid practicum or volunteer position for individuals pursuing a career in Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Management, Human Resources, or related fields. Reporting to the Compliance Officer, you will work in a professional office setting with occasional travel to local program sites to support the organization’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System. This role follows a daytime routine with some flexibility for audits and inspections.
What you'll do#
- Support workplace inspections by preparing checklists, recording findings, and tracking corrective actions.
- Assist with hazard assessments and hazard identification activities.
- Help investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries by gathering information and maintaining records.
- Maintain OHS records, databases, and electronic filing systems.
- Help monitor inspection schedules for fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, emergency equipment, and other safety-related items.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a career or experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Management, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Google tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail) and the ability to learn new computer tracking systems.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Successful completion of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and an Intervention Record Check prior to starting.
