About the role#
The Law Clerk Intern works in a support capacity within our legal department. You will gain experience in civil and commercial litigation, regulatory matters, environmental law, and employment and labor law. This role requires a commitment of at least 20 hours per week during the school semester and 30 hours per week during the summer. We require a minimum commitment of one full semester, though one year is preferred.
What you'll do#
- Manage your own case load.
- Assist attorneys with litigation and pre-litigation matters.
- Draft letters and legal documents.
- Research, read, and route correspondence to support in-house counsel.
- Collect and analyze information, including initiating telecommunications.
- Resolve conflicts and negotiate with outside entities and individuals.
- Interact with field employees, customers, Courts, opposing counsel, and third parties.
- Handle administrative duties such as file organization, scanning, copying, and binder creation.
- Support the legal department with various projects as requested.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current juris doctor candidate.
- Fluency in written and spoken English with strong communication skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Ability to draft clear, concise, and logically constructed legal research summaries.
- High level of initiative and effort in completing assignments.
- Ability to think creatively and proactively resolve conflicts.
- Ability to multi-task in a complex, inter-disciplinary environment.
- Ability to collect facts, identify issues, and formulate recommendations in a timely manner.
- Prior litigation or employment experience is preferred but not required.
