About the role#
The Law Clerk Intern works in a support capacity within the legal department, focusing on civil, commercial, regulatory, environmental, and employment law. This role offers exposure to litigation and pre-litigation matters while requiring the ability to manage an independent caseload. We require a commitment of at least 20 hours per week during the school semester and 30 hours per week during the summer. A full semester is required, though a one-year commitment is preferred.
What you'll do#
- Draft legal research summaries and documents that are clear, concise, and logically constructed.
- Conserve in-house counsel time by researching, routing correspondence, and initiating telecommunications.
- Assist attorneys with litigation and pre-litigation matters, including the collection and analysis of information.
- Manage administrative tasks such as electronic and paper file maintenance, scanning, and binder creation.
- Interact with employees in the field, customers, courts, and outside counsel to resolve conflicts and negotiate.
- Actively manage your own caseload and support the legal department with additional projects as requested.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current Juris Doctor candidate.
- Fluent in written and spoken English with strong communication skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- High level of initiative and effort toward completing assignments efficiently.
- Ability to multi-task in a complex, inter-disciplinary legal environment.
- Ability to think creatively and proactively in conflict resolution.
- Previous litigation or employment law experience is preferred but not required.
