About the role#
The City of Lebanon is hiring an intern for a six-month trainee position at our wastewater treatment facility. This role provides hands-on experience in plant operations and maintenance. You will work under close supervision to learn treatment processes, equipment handling, and regulatory standards. The goal of this internship is to prepare you for a future career in the industry and eventual certification as a Grade 1 Wastewater Operator.
What you'll do#
- Learn to monitor and control wastewater treatment processes.
- Perform routine maintenance, repair tasks, and general housekeeping.
- Collect wastewater samples and conduct basic laboratory tests.
- Document plant operations, maintenance activities, and testing results.
- Operate heavy equipment including skid steers and telehandlers.
- Participate in structured training and development programs.
- Perform manual labor and groundskeeping duties as needed.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D).
- Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record (must obtain a Tennessee license within 30 days of hire).
- Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds, and move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Capacity to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to undergo a physical examination and complete required vaccinations.
- Residency in Wilson County or a bordering county.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site, full-time, paid internship located in Lebanon, Tennessee.
- The role requires availability for rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, due to the nature of critical infrastructure operations.
- You must be available for on-call and emergency response duties.
