About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern program offers nursing students the chance to work in an acute care inpatient clinical setting. You will work under the direction of a nurse to provide patient care and support unit operations. This is a year-round position requiring a minimum commitment of 16 hours biweekly. You must also work one weekend shift every four weeks and fulfill holiday requirements, including one winter and one summer holiday.
What you'll do#
- Provide hygiene and comfort measures for patients.
- Perform direct and indirect patient care activities.
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Respond to patient needs promptly and initiate interventions within your scope.
- Recognize changes in patient status and take appropriate action.
- Follow departmental safety rules and report any unsafe conditions or hazards.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program.
- At least one completed in-person or hands-on clinical rotation.
- Current BLS certification.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Ability to attend mandatory classroom training.

- Positions are available at campuses in Newark and Wilmington, Delaware.
- This is a paid, on-site, full-time position.
- The pay rate is $19.82 per hour plus applicable differentials.
