About the role#
ChristianaCare is seeking nursing students for year-round Student Nurse Extern positions. This program offers experience in an acute care inpatient clinical setting while working under the direction of a nurse. Externs perform duties as a Patient Care Technician and are required to maintain employment throughout the year.
What you'll do#
- Provide hygiene and comfort measures along with direct and indirect patient care activities.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, employees, and physicians.
- Respond to patient needs promptly and initiate interventions within your scope of responsibility.
- Collaborate with registered nurses to perform unit-specific tasks.
- Recognize changes in patient status and take appropriate action.
- Adhere to departmental safety rules and report any unsafe conditions or violations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program preparing you to sit for the NCLEX-RN.
- Completion of at least one in-person or hands-on clinical rotation.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Current BLS certification.
- High school diploma or GED.
Location & details#
- Locations: Newark and Wilmington, Delaware.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $19.82 per hour plus applicable differentials.
- Schedule Requirements: Minimum of 16 hours biweekly, one weekend shift every four weeks, and a holiday requirement including one winter and one summer holiday.
