Student Nurse Extern- Year-Round Positions

About the role#

ChristianaCare is seeking nursing students for a year-round Student Nurse Extern position. This role provides an opportunity to work in an acute care inpatient clinical setting while working under the direction of a nurse. Externs are expected to maintain employment throughout the year, working a minimum of 16 hours biweekly, with requirements to work one weekend shift every four weeks and holiday shifts.

What you'll do#

• Provide hygiene, comfort measures, and selected direct and indirect patient care activities.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
• Respond to patient needs promptly and initiate interventions within the scope of responsibility.
• Collaborate with registered nurses and perform unit-specific tasks.
• Recognize changes in patient status and take appropriate action.
• Adhere to safety rules and report any unsafe conditions or violations.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program preparing for the NCLEX-RN.
• One completed in-person, hands-on clinical rotation.
• A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Current BLS certification.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to attend mandatory classroom training.

• Compensation: This is a paid position at a rate of $19.82 per hour plus applicable differentials.
