About the role#
ChristianaCare is seeking nursing students for a year-round Student Nurse Extern position. This role provides an opportunity to work in an acute care inpatient clinical setting while working under the direction of a nurse. Externs are expected to maintain employment throughout the year, working a minimum of 16 hours biweekly, with requirements to work one weekend shift every four weeks and holiday shifts.
What you'll do#
- Provide hygiene, comfort measures, and selected direct and indirect patient care activities.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Respond to patient needs promptly and initiate interventions within the scope of responsibility.
- Collaborate with registered nurses and perform unit-specific tasks.
- Recognize changes in patient status and take appropriate action.
- Adhere to safety rules and report any unsafe conditions or violations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program preparing for the NCLEX-RN.
- One completed in-person, hands-on clinical rotation.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Current BLS certification.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to attend mandatory classroom training.

- Compensation: This is a paid position at a rate of $19.82 per hour plus applicable differentials.
