About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineer Intern at Charter Steel, you will gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. You will build technical knowledge across engineering, maintenance, quality, and production departments. This role involves supporting and leading projects focused on process improvements, safety enhancements, and equipment upgrades while you develop skills in problem-solving, collaboration, and project management.
What you'll do#
- Create and update engineering drawings to support equipment and process needs.
- Support plant-wide safety and ergonomic improvement projects.
- Lead process improvement projects from initial concept through implementation and completion.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and other internal teams to execute projects.
- Work with contractors and suppliers to coordinate project needs and solutions.
- Gain hands-on exposure to mechanical engineering in a manufacturing environment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a four-year degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Ability to succeed in a team environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Preferred: Advanced Excel and analyst skills, AutoCAD experience, and exposure to Lean manufacturing or Continuous Improvement tools.
