About the role#
This internship provides experience in managing fitness and wellness programs within a higher education setting. You will assist in the daily operations of fitness floor programming, personal training, and group fitness classes. The role focuses on building leadership skills, overseeing staff, and maintaining high standards for facility cleanliness and program quality.
What you'll do#
- Assist in recruiting, training, and scheduling personal trainers, fitness instructors, and fitness attendants.
- Direct the oversight of fitness staff based on your previous experience.
- Plan and implement fitness events and programs throughout the year.
- Monitor scheduling software such as SubItUp and Rec Automation.
- Prepare written reports, including participation statistics and equipment inventories.
- Research and develop new fitness challenges to encourage active lifestyles.
- Build partnerships with campus groups, vendors, and local organizations.
- Conduct daily inspections of facility programming areas.
- Attend all staff meetings and maintain updated staff manuals.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor degree in a related field like Exercise Science or Health Promotion.
- Leadership and supervisory abilities with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Analytical skills to identify problems, assess alternatives, and make logical decisions.
- Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports.
- Ability to write concise, logical reports.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Basic understanding of budgets and HR theories regarding staff development.
- Currently pursuing a nationally recognized personal training or group fitness certification.

- Location: Jacksonville, Alabama.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- This is an unpaid internship position.
- The schedule includes evening and weekend work as required.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 lbs and spending at least 50% of the day standing or walking.
