About the role#
As a Sports Intern, you will help our team cover North Texas sports. You will handle a mix of daily and enterprise assignments, including college and professional sports coverage. This role requires weekend work and a focus on breaking news, trending topics, and online audience engagement. You will be expected to use social media for newsgathering and capture smartphone photos or videos for your stories.
What you'll do#
- Write accurate, quick copy on local North Texas sports topics.
- Use social media to find story ideas and engage with our audience.
- Build digital stories using links, tags, SEO practices, and multimedia.
- Collaborate with editors to develop content that resonates with readers.
- Assist with video and audio journalism as needed.
What you'll need#
- Strong news judgment, speed, and grammatical precision.
- A flair for writing headlines and a deep understanding of SEO.
- Proficiency with digital content management and newsroom planning tools.
- Ability to work remotely using a smartphone or laptop.
- Knowledge of digital news analytics and audience trends.
- A valid driver's license and a registered vehicle for travel to assignments.
- Current enrollment in a degree program such as Communications, Journalism, or Media Studies.
