About the role#
This is a part-time, paid, year-round internship based at the Catalent facility in San Diego. Interns gain hands-on experience in pharmaceutical chemistry development, including formulation processes like tableting, solutions, suspensions, encapsulation, and spray drying. You will also learn analytical chemistry techniques such as pH testing, density, powder X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, microscopy, and dissolution testing.
What you'll do#
- Clean laboratory glassware and supplies.
- Perform maintenance on designated laboratory equipment and order necessary supplies.
- Prepare buffers and laboratory reagents.
- Document experiments in a laboratory notebook.
- Assist with experiments under the supervision of a full-time pharmaceutical chemist or quality control analyst.
- Perform routine experiments independently once trained.
- Comply with all GMP practices and SOPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time college student, at least in your second year.
- Major in life sciences, specifically Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology (with a focus in Chemistry preferred).
- Completion of Upper Division Chemistry coursework is preferred.
- Prior experience in chemistry and laboratory techniques is strongly recommended.
- Ability to work 15 to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8am and 5pm.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

- Compensation: $20 per hour.
- Note: This role does not offer housing assistance or relocation support. Bachelor's degree graduates are not eligible.
