About the role#
This is a part-time, year-round internship based at our San Diego facility. You will gain hands-on experience in pharmaceutical chemistry by supporting drug product development, including tableting, solutions, suspensions, encapsulation, and spray drying. You will also learn analytical techniques to characterize active pharmaceutical ingredients, such as pH testing, density measurement, microscopy, and dissolution testing.
What you'll do#
- Clean laboratory glassware and supplies.
- Perform maintenance on laboratory equipment and manage supply orders.
- Prepare buffers and laboratory reagents.
- Document experiments in a laboratory notebook.
- Assist with experiments under the supervision of a pharmaceutical chemist or quality control analyst.
- Perform routine experiments independently when qualified.
- Ensure all work complies with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time college student, at least in your second year.
- Major in life sciences, specifically Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology with a focus in Chemistry.
- Completion of upper-division chemistry coursework is preferred.
- Prior experience with chemistry lab techniques is strongly recommended.
- Ability to work 15 to 20 hours per week on-site, Monday through Friday between 8am and 5pm.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 25 pounds, standing, reaching, and crouching.
