About the role#
Geotechnical engineers at Canadian Natural Resources Limited manage the design, construction, and monitoring of mining earth structures. This includes tailings dams, pit walls, and waste dumps. As a student, you will support the geotechnical team with in-house design, surveillance, and data analysis. You may also work with the tailings closure and reclamation team. This is a full-time, paid student position.
What you'll do#
- Collate, process, and manage geotechnical instrumentation data, including quality control.
- Complete daily instrument monitoring reports.
- Assist in preparing and presenting monthly performance monitoring reports.
- Apply engineering principles to assess and solve geotechnical issues related to mine earth structures.
- Perform design calculations and modelling under the direction of an engineer.
- Assist engineers in producing technical deliverables, reports, and drawings.
- Contribute to work standards, procedures, and guidelines.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program, preferably in Civil or Geological engineering.
- Strong motivation and communication skills.
- A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license or equivalent with a clean driver abstract.
- Experience in computer programming or coding, such as Python, VBA, or SQL, is an asset.
- Relevant coursework, projects, or previous engineering experience is considered an asset.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening test.

- Location: Calgary, Alberta (on-site).
- Term length: 12 months.
- Start dates: May or September 2027.
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
