About the role#
As a Reactor Operations Engineering Intern for Summer 2027, you will support our Advanced Technologies group. You will help build strategies and procedures for first-of-a-kind nuclear reactor systems. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Lynchburg, Virginia.
What you'll do#
- Develop operational strategies and testing methodologies for reactor systems using design data and safety analyses.
- Evaluate accidents, malfunctions, and events to create integrated plant response procedures.
- Use a reactor plant simulator and human-performance engineering guidance to validate strategies and adjust processes.
- Participate in design and systems engineering activities to ensure operational fundamentals are included early in the design process.
- Create training materials that meet internal, industry, and regulatory standards.
- Assist senior reactor operations engineers with daily tasks and project needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program in a technical field, such as Physics, Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- U.S. citizenship is required.

- Location: Lynchburg, Virginia.
- Duration: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $25.05 to $31.83 per hour.
- Benefits: This role is eligible for a housing stipend if requirements are met and participation in the company thrift plan (401k).
