About the role#
As a Software Engineering Intern, you will spend the summer building features for a platform construction professionals use daily. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to projects, and learn how software moves from idea to production. By the end of the internship, you will have sharpened your technical skills and shipped code that impacts how the world builds.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications for the Buildertrend platform.
- Partner with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and QA to take features from concept to release.
- Write clean, well-documented code using languages and frameworks within the Buildertrend tech stack.
- Build and improve features that directly impact how customers manage their projects.
- Participate in code reviews to strengthen code quality and learn from senior team members.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with guidance from Senior Software Engineers.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies, including standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Use AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude, to accelerate coding and debugging while remaining accountable for the quality of your work.
- Complete assigned tasks and projects within established sprint timelines.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
- Available to work full-time onsite at the Buildertrend HQ in Omaha, NE, for the full summer.
- A strong interest in software engineering and a desire to grow your skills.
- Experience using AI tools like Claude or GitHub Copilot in coursework or personal projects, or an interest in learning how to use them effectively.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as C#/.NET, Java, and React.
- Understanding of modern software development methodologies like Agile or Scrum.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort working independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and apply feedback constructively.

- Location: Omaha, Nebraska.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $28 per hour.
