About the role#
Brevard Zoo is looking for an intern to join the Conservation Learning team. You will support our educators in delivering programs to students through partnerships with local public schools. This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and traveling to offsite program locations using a zoo vehicle.
What you'll do#
- Teach students during Lagoon Quest, Be Outside with Brevard Zoo, and STEM at school programming.
- Lead public speaking sessions for groups of up to 60 people.
- Wade into the Indian River Lagoon up to waist deep.
- Load and unload equipment from vans with assistance.
- Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in college with at least one year completed, or a recent degree in education, science, or a related field.
- Enthusiasm for the outdoors and the natural world.
- Knowledge of the Indian River Lagoon ecosystem.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills.
- Availability at least two days per week between Monday and Thursday, from 7am to 5pm.
- Coursework in marine biology is preferred.
