About the role#
Branch is seeking a Heavy Civil Engineering Intern for our Summer 2027 program in Richmond, Virginia. This full-time, on-site internship provides a structured environment to gain hands-on experience in preconstruction, project management, and field supervision. You will work alongside our teams to support project delivery while receiving training and mentorship to build your professional skills in the construction industry.
What you'll do#
- Assist Design-Build Coordinators with the process of winning and managing projects.
- Collaborate with pursuit and project teams to influence and advance design efforts.
- Attend Technical Work Group meetings and sessions with designers and owners.
- Conduct research on project specifications and manage documentation.
- Help prepare project deliverables, including meeting minutes and schedules.
- Brainstorm solutions with project teams to address construction or design issues.
- Develop working drawings and work plans.
- Interact with subcontractors, vendors, and owners.
- Participate in cost planning, scheduling, materials procurement, cost control, and quality management.
- Follow safety and security procedures at all times.
- Prepare a final presentation at the end of the program to outline your experience.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program related to Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A courteous and professional attitude when working with co-workers, customers, and the public.
- Determination to make a difference in your work.
- A valid driver's license with a good driving record.

- Schedule: Full-time (40+ hours per week).
- Travel: Periodic travel to job sites and offices is required.
