About the role#
As an Android Engineer Intern, you will contribute to the Branch Android app by building new features, optimizing performance, and shaping the technical direction of the product. You will work within a collaborative team of engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver a reliable user experience. This role involves taking ownership of projects from initial development through to final release, while actively participating in code reviews and technical discussions.
What you'll do#
- Build and improve features for the Branch Android app to create smooth, user-friendly experiences.
- Collaborate with backend teams to integrate APIs and support new product functionality.
- Improve app performance and stability by reducing crashes and optimizing responsiveness.
- Support integrations with third-party services, including payments, authentication, and analytics.
- Participate in code reviews and technical team discussions to maintain high engineering standards.
- Take ownership of features and projects, driving them from development to release.
- Contribute to improving code quality, testing, and the overall maintainability of the codebase.
What you'll need#
- Experience building native Android applications, such as projects with real users or open-source contributions.
- Strong understanding of Android development using Kotlin.
- Proficiency in modern Android UI development using Jetpack Compose, including managing UI state and following architecture patterns.
- Experience working with REST APIs and backend services.
- Deep understanding of Android app performance, crash debugging, and stability.
- Demonstrated fluency with AI-assisted development workflows and an ability to use them effectively.
- Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals.
- Ability to communicate clearly and operate effectively in an asynchronous environment.
