About the role#
The Co-op Student program at Boston Medical Center allows students to integrate classroom learning with a paid work internship. You will receive on-site orientation and training under the supervision of the Audiology Supervisor or Manager. This role focuses on newborn hearing testing and departmental support. You will apply your skills in a professional setting while adhering to hospital policies and safety regulations.
What you'll do#
- Perform hearing screenings on newborn babies and document results in the electronic medical record.
- Assist with basic audiology procedures and screenings.
- Instruct patients and families on how to use hearing technology equipment.
- Troubleshoot devices, recommend repairs, and draft authorization requests for parts.
- Manage departmental administrative tasks, including scheduling patient appointments.
- Maintain the organization of clinical equipment, records, and hearing technology inventory.
- Report screening data to the Department of Public Health.
- Complete clerical duties for the hearing aid program.
- Assist clinicians and front desk staff with daily operations.
- Attend staff meetings and in-services regarding new equipment or procedures.
- Work assigned days, including weekends and holidays.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR certification.
- No prior audiology experience is required.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and take appropriate action.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive health information.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
- Basic computer proficiency for entering and accessing data.
- Professionalism and attention to detail.
- Commitment to the hospital mission and patient care standards.
