About the role#
As a Capacity Planning intern, you will join the Network Strategy team to guide future growth and investment decisions. You will use data, modeling, and financial analysis to evaluate current network performance and identify infrastructure constraints. This is a full-time, hybrid position. You will work 40 hours per week, splitting time between the office and remote work. The internship includes a two-day orientation in Fort Worth, Texas.
What you'll do#
- Analyze corridor, terminal, and hub operations to find capacity constraints and improvement opportunities.
- Develop analytical models and simulation tools to test the impact of infrastructure changes.
- Collaborate with teams across BNSF, including Engineering Services, Finance, and Marketing, to prioritize investment options.
- Create presentations, visualizations, and recommendations for leadership to support operational and capital planning.
- Explore new ways to model capacity using Artificial Intelligence tools.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelors or Graduate degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Supply Chain Management, Data Science, Computer Science, or a similar field.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
- Less than three years of professional work experience.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
- Access to reliable transportation for the duration of the internship.
