About the role#
Bird Construction is seeking a Student Estimator for a 4 or 8 month internship starting in January 2027. This position provides an opportunity to manage specific areas of responsibility with guidance from a supervisor and technical mentor. You will work on-site in Edmonton, Alberta.
What you'll do#
- Review project plans and specifications to understand scope and requirements.
- Perform take-offs from drawings to determine material and labor quantities.
- Use estimating software to prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, and subcontractor quotes.
- Organize and compile information for bid proposals.
- Work with senior estimators and project managers to analyze bids for accuracy.
- Maintain cost databases and track project opportunities or market trends.
- Attend project meetings and stay current on construction technologies and industry practices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program such as Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Completion of at least one academic semester following the internship.
- Ability to work in an environment where priorities shift frequently.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a commitment to achieving goals.
- A positive attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Legal residency or a valid work permit for Canada.
